Active Recovery and Mobility Between Hard Sessions
Recovery work should help you arrive at the next session—not quietly become another hard workout.
What active recovery means
Active recovery is low-intensity movement performed between more demanding sessions. Easy walking, comfortable cycling, light mobility, or a relaxed technique session may help you move without adding substantial fatigue.
Keep easy work genuinely easy
You should be able to breathe comfortably and finish feeling similar or better. Avoid turning recovery into a competition for calories, distance, or flexibility. More is not automatically better.
Use mobility for a specific need
Choose a few movements related to positions you want to use comfortably. Move through a pain-free range and avoid forcing joints into deeper positions. Mobility is most useful when it supports the movements you actually train.
Know when complete rest is better
Rest may be the better choice when you are ill, unusually exhausted, experiencing sharp pain, or noticing symptoms that worsen with movement. Recovery also includes sleep, adequate food and hydration, and managing overall training stress.
Place recovery in the plan
A weekly plan can alternate demanding and lighter days. Keeping recovery visible makes it a deliberate part of progress instead of something you remember only after fatigue accumulates.
